OpenAI releases GPT-4o

A new GPT model? A faster model? And thatā€™s free?

YES.

OpenAI launches a new iteration of its GPT-4 product on Monday.

ā€œItā€™ll be free for all users, and paid users will continue to ā€œhave up to five times the capacity limitsā€ of free users, Murati added.

OpenAI's CEO said it's "natively multimodal" which means it can generate content or understand commands through voice, text, or images. They're rolling out the text and image capabilities in ChatGPT which is LIVE now.

The voice mode is getting an upgrade too, almost like a real-time voice assistant.

Instead of just responding to one prompt at a time, it can act more like Her (The movie)

Observing the world around you and responding in real-time.

Well, that sounds close to a black mirror episode if gone wrong. šŸ«Ø

No search engine or GPT-5?

Many people thought OpenAI might announce an AI search engine or a whole new GPT-5 model.

The rumors were all over the place! But this iterative GPT-4o update seems to OpenAIā€™s focus for now. The model is accessible to developers through cheaper, faster APIs.

Though the timing right before Google I/O seems like they wanted to get ahead of any potential AI announcements from Google.
