Largest Gov AI-chip Investment: Biden awards Intel $20B
The Biden Administration announced it will provide Intel with up to $20 billion in funding and loans under the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen U.S. semiconductor manufacturing.
The projects are estimated to directly create over 10,000 manufacturing jobs and nearly 20,000 construction jobs across the sites.
In addition to the $8.5 billion in direct funding, the government is making up to $11 billion in loans available to Intel under the preliminary terms.
Intel plans to claim a 25% investment tax credit for qualified capital expenditures under the CHIPS Act.
The funding aims to re-establish U.S. leadership in producing advanced logic chips critical for technologies like artificial intelligence.
Over the next 5 years, Intel expects to invest over $100 billion in the U.S. across sites in Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, and Oregon to expand chip manufacturing capacity and capabilities.

Speaking without vocal cords, thanks to a new AI-assisted wearable device
The adhesive neck patch is the latest advance by UCLA bioengineers in speech technology for people with disabilities
For people who lost their voice, will be now able to chat with just a neck patch! That's the future UCLA bioengineers are creating with a new, ultra-thin device that reads your throat movements and translates them into speech.
How does it work?
Step 1: Stick this soft, stretchy patch on your neck. The 1.2 inch, 7 gram device can adhere to the throat with biocompatible tape.
Step 2: It reads muscle movements in your larynx (voice box).
Step 3: Machine learning converts muscle movement signals into electrical signals and than turns those signals into speech (almost 95% accurate!).
This is a game-changer for people who can't speak due to vocal cord problems, , including those recovering from laryngeal cancer surgeries. It's comfy, non-invasive, and could be a lifesaver during treatment or recovery.
Plus, the team behind this is a champion for communication. UCLA bioengineers have previously invented a glove that translates sign language into spoken English!
Results so far?
The researchers tested it successfully on 8 healthy adults and plan to expand the device's vocabulary and test it on people with actual speech disorders.
Stability AI CEO resigns to ‘pursue decentralized AI’
The CEO of Stability AI, the company behind the popular Stable Diffusion image generator, has stepped down.
The main reason why?
He is leaving to pursue work on "decentralized AI", stating he doesn't want to "beat centralized AI with more centralized AI" - referring to the concentrated ownership of leading AI companies.
Mostaque is ditching the startup scene as rivals like Inflection AI get gobbled up by Microsoft.
He wants ethical, open-source alternatives to Big Tech's commercial generative AI domination.
His departure comes amid upheaval at Stability AI, including key employee exits and a failed $4 billion funding round.
But one thing's for sure, the future of AI is gonna be interesting...and maybe a little less centralized!
