Plus: AI art for "SuperHeroes, but in Ghibli Style!"
Hey, AI-preneurs!
We're starting off April with some major news: Biden's Administration updates, Google's $20M initiative for social good with generative AI, and a preview of the biggest AI data center planned for 2028.
Never a dull week in AI!
Let's jump into the big headlines, AI art, and the latest AI tools to try! š
Biden Administration unveils 3 new rules for Federal Gov's use of AI
The Biden administration announced three new policies to guide the ethical and responsible use of AI by federal agencies.
Aiming to address concerns about workforce risks, privacy, and discrimination.
The key things they announced are:
The policies require federal agencies to ensure their AI systems do not endanger the rights and safety of Americans.
Agencies must publish online lists of the AI systems they are using, along with risk assessments and how those risks are being managed to improve transparency.
All federal agencies must designate a chief AI officer to oversee the agency's use of AI technologies.
Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the importance of adopting AI ethically to protect the public and maximize benefits.
The policies also involve red-teaming tests to ensure safety standards before releasing advanced AI platforms to the public.
Federal agencies will be required to implement safeguards by December 2023 to reliably assess, test, and monitor the impacts of their AI systems on the public.
Why this matters: This has been eagerly awaited, as AI is advancing rapidly and there are growing concerns around potential risks to jobs, privacy, discrimination, and even national security if it's not properly governed.

Microsoft and OpenAI are reportedly working on what could be the MOST expensive data center project ever at $100 BILLION.
Building a powerful AI supercomputer called "Stargate" set to launch in 2028.
And the crazy part is, they claim Stargate will be 100 times more powerful than existing data centers.
More details:
It is part of a multi-phase plan by Microsoft and OpenAI to build a series of increasingly powerful AI supercomputers over the next 6 years to meet the increasing demand for computing capabilities.
Microsoft is likely to finance the majority of the $100+ billion cost.
A significant portion of the costs for the later phases will go towards acquiring expensive specialized AI chips needed to power the supercomputers.
While OpenAI did not comment, a Microsoft spokesperson acknowledged they are planning next-generation infrastructure for AI without directly confirming the Stargate details.
Of course, there's still lots of details to be ironed out - like sourcing the expensive AI-specific chips āStargateā will require.
But know this - if and when Stargate does materialize in 2028, it'll make today's data centers look like AC-powered lemonade standsā¦š
Google.org launches $20M generative AI accelerator program for nonprofits!
Google.org, Google's charitable arm, is launching a new $20 million program.
Itās called the Google.org Accelerator: Generative AI to fund and support nonprofits developing tech that leverage generative AI.
Here's the scoop:
The program will provide grants to 21 initial nonprofits like Quill.org for AI-powered student writing feedback and the World Bank for making development research more accessible via generative AI.
These nonprofits will also receive technical training, workshops, mentorship, and an "AI coach" for participating nonprofits.
Google employees will also work full-time for up to 6 months with 3 nonprofits (Tarjimly, Benefits Data Trust, mRelief)
This is to help launch their generative AI tools aimed at translation for refugees, assisting with public benefits enrollment, and streamlining SNAP applications.
Why this matters:
This initiative tackles a major hurdle for many nonprofits: the resources and know-how to embrace AI. By removing these barriers, Google.org is helping to unlock the power of AI for positive social change.
Plus, the rise of nonprofit AI startups shows there's a growing movement to leverage this technology for good.
The future of AI looks bright, and it's getting even brighter when it's used to help others!
