Welcome aboard the AI Odyssey - Your celestial vessel navigating the ever-expanding universe of AI. 🛸
Recently, a Reddit user shared an advertisement made by AI and it sparked a great discussion on does it looks good and whether will it replace more jobs?
Here’s the link in case you wanna see it too. 👀
Let’s get started on today’s headlines!
Mercedes Hires Humanoid Robots to Work at Its Factories
Mercedes-Benz is shaking things up by bringing in Apollo, a super helpful humanoid robot.
The robot comes from Apptronik to perform physically demanding and low-skill tasks.
What’s more?
The 5'8" tall Apollo robot can lift up to 55 lbs, run for 4 hours on a single charge, and has arms, legs, LED eyes, and display screens instead of a movable mouth.
Safety first, though Apollo can stop moving if objects/people enter its "impact zone" for safety, can be remotely controlled, and can have its torso mounted if not needing to walk.
So, what will Apollo be doing?
Mercedes plans to use Apollo for tasks like inspecting parts, bringing parts to assembly lines, and delivering kitted parts.
A Mercedes executive said robotics and AI open new opportunities to support human workers, fill labor gaps in low-skill/repetitive work, and allow skilled workers to focus on desirable car production.
A glimpse into the future of manufacturing
Apptronik previously worked on NASA's Valkyrie robot before developing Apollo, which was first announced in August 2023.
The news highlights advancements in humanoid robotics being applied in industrial manufacturing settings.
Apollo shows how these helpful machines can work alongside us, making our jobs easier and cooler (who wouldn't want a robot coworker?)

Apple and Google may sign the biggest AI deal
Apple is in talks with Google to integrate Google's Gemini AI engine into iPhones to enable new generative AI features like image creation and essay writing based on prompts.
Here’s the scoop:
This potential deal could be HUGE, rivaling the size of Google's current deal to be the default search engine on iPhones (that's over $2 billion a year, FYI).
In addition to the talks with Google about Gemini, Apple has also recently had discussions with OpenAI about potentially using their ChatGPT model.
Will it be OpenAI or Google?
The discussion is still open. However, deal terms, branding, and implementation details are still undecided. An announcement is unlikely until Apple's annual developer conference in June.
As part of iOS 18 for iPhones coming later this year, Apple is looking to enhance its AI capabilities through partnerships, using its own AI models as well as licensing technology from AI leaders even if it's their "friendly competitor," Google.
A hiring treat among the layoffs: These 61 robotics companies are hiring
TechCrunch recently shared a job list of 61 companies hiring.
“To everyone who lost a job, recently graduated, or is just looking for something new, here’s to finding your next big thing.”
